Alaska Seafood Exchange is an Internet-based business that places buyers and sellers of Alaskan seafood in touch with one another. Any legal product forms of Alaskan seafood are welcome. Why did AlaskaSE get started? AlaskaSE was started to help revolutionize the decades-old commercial fishing model by bringing individual fishermen into direct contact with the final consumers of their products, giving individuals and small businesses as many options to acquire fresh and preserved Alaskan seafood as anyone else all through the convenient interface of the Internet. By tying the success of fishermen to their stewardship of the products they sell, AlaskaSE will help improve the world-renowned quality of Alaskan seafoods and maximize quality control efforts throughout the process of bringing Alaskan seafoods to market. How much does it cost to use AlaskaSE? Purchasing Alaskan seafood through the Alaska Seafood Exchange website does not require a subscription fee. A transaction fee is assessed at the time of purchase that is based on the purchase price of the seafood involved in that transaction. Advertising Alaskan seafood on the Alaska Seafood Exchange website requires that the seller pay a nominal application fee, primarily used to cover the costs of application verification and review processing. Sellers desiring additional storefront(s) are assessed a lower fee based on the reduced verification time involved. Additionally, a transaction fee is assessed at the time of purchase that is based on the purchase price of the seafood involved in that transaction. AlaskaSE is a privately held corporation whose purpose is to facilitate the sale and distribution of Alaska seafood. AlaskaSE’s shareholders include fishermen, catcher-processors, direct marketers, and Internet specialists, all committed to the common goal of improving the quality and livelihood of the Alaskan fishing industry. Does AlaskaSE sell any products of its own? No. AlaskaSE has no involvement in the processing or distribution of seafood, it merely provides a common medium for seafood exchange over the Internet. Who do I contact if I have a problem? If you have a problem with the specifics of a transaction, you should contact the seller or sellers associated with your transaction via the e-mail address and/or phone number included on your “Transaction Verification” form.
